Documentary: My Khmer Heart

A documentary about Geraldine's story and the children she has devoted her life to was produced in 2000. My Khmer Heart was directed and produced by two Australian women, Janine Hosking and Leonie Lowe, partners in the film company, Icandy. They were thrilled to be notified that the Hollywood Film Festival had nominated it to be considered with 5 others for the Documentary of the Year Award. Geraldine and the girls were invited to attend a Gala Dinner in Hollywood in August 2000 where My Khmer Heart, much to everyone's delight, won!

Then, it was discovered that the film made it to the last 10 of those nominated for the 2002 Oscars. The first Australian film of any kind to have made it this far in the Oscars, ever!

Just days after Geraldine was reeling from the shock of this, she learnt of a second nomination at the Montreal Film Festival in Canada. And another nomination was in the One World Broadcasting Trust International Awards, in London, where films highlight humanitarian issues.

The documentary was bought by Home Box Office (HBO) and was screened throughout America in February 2000. Another sale was made to the English Discovery Channel which screened the documentary all over Europe and South America. Sunrise was really making a name for itself!
